Sleigh Beds can make a beautiful addition to your bedroom. They are available in all sizes, from twin to King, and are even available in daybeds. One of the more popular designs is of the Louis Philippe style, and referred to as the Maison Philippe style by at least one manufacturer. In a small bedroom, one might find that a bed, nightstand and drawer chest is all that can be accommodated or in a larger bedroom a suite might include a queen or king bed two night stands, a drawer chest, a dresser with mirror , and even an armoire for a television. Other possible items are lingerie chests and desks. Some retailers will allow you to buy only the pieces you need instead of a whole suite.

When looking for your bedroom suite, you may be advised that the suite is all wood when it is made from medium-density fiberboard (MDF), or they may say our night stands have solid wood fronts and tops. That would mean that the rest of the unit is not solid wood or is of MDF construction. While MDF is commonly used today in many pieces of furniture, usually the better quality pieces are actually of wood plank or plywood construction. Some components, such as drawer bottoms, and large flat surfaces may be better and stronger made from plywood, or veneered, than from solid plank construction. Solid wood planking is often subject to drying and cracking whereas a plywood or veneer construction can avoid this type of problem.

Other items to look for in the design of any bed is the support for the mattress. A good support system would include at least three slats extending from rail to rail. These slats would ideally include a leg or other support in the center, for a queen or king bed, and the leg would include an extendable foot to insure a firm and sturdy support system. The slats would be secured to the side rails by wood screws or slots to prevent movement.

Caring for your new all wood sleigh bed is quite simple. All that is needed is a soft cloth slightly moistened with a quality polish to remove any dust. Any spillage on any wood furniture should be cleaned up immediately. And cold drinks should not be allowed to stand directly on night stands or other bedroom furniture.

Wooden furniture is referred to in the industry as case goods. In the United States, North Carolina used to be the center of case goods manufacturing. While it remains the center of the furniture industry, today most of the furniture companies in North Carolina are importers and distributors, with their products coming from the orient, and China in particular. China has invested in manufacturing sites at an astronomical pace. The factories are huge and house the very latest in manufacturing equipment.  China, and other oriental countries, have been making quite a favorable quality reputation for themselves while providing product at very affordable prices.  They have, therefore,  become very difficult to compete with. No matter what brand of case goods furniture you choose to buy, if you look on the back or underneath,  you will most likely see a decal which says "Made in China" or another oriental country, or "Made in China for (name of brand)"

Much of the wooden products come from the wood of the Rubber Tree Plant (Hevea brasiliensis).  There are large Rubber Tree plantations in the orient and when these trees stop producing adequate latex for rubber (about 30 years) the entire stand of trees is hewn down and replanted. The wood, valued for its high density is then used in the manufacture of high-end furniture.
